Have you ever had something happen to you that's annoying, but also kind-of exciting? Well, I just had something happen to me that was both annoying, but also exciting on NationStates. I was browsing through my region, and I saw this: Seems normal right? Think again. Do you see the nation that deleted this? It was "Areditas." My NS nation is "Aredita." Very similar, and very peculiar. Later, I found out by a region-mate that their deleted message was simply "Hi." That person told me they saw the message before it was deleted. Anyway... After I saw this, I did a quick search for their nation and found this: This person had copied my flag, motto, and very closely, my name! This is where I felt both annoyed and excited. First of all, why would you want to copy my nation? Second, this was kind-of offensive; I have been on NS for nearly 2 years, I have worked very hard at developing my nation, I paid $10.00 for a special NS account so after my nation ceased to exist no one could use my name again, plus the fact that, well, they copied my nation very clearly. I didn't put in all that work to be copied like my nation could be equal to, never mind compared to a new NS nation. But, looking past all of that, a part of me felt honored. Had I become prominent enough that someone tried to replicate my nation? Or, did they just click a random nation and decide to copy it? Honestly, I really don't think many people know who I am on NS. Maybe I'm wrong, though. Who's to say. I sent this person a kind, but firm telegram. I really didn't want my nation to be copied. Ironically, I just finished a persuasion book, called The Art of Persuasion by Bob Berg. (Very good read, by the way. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to persuade people into believing you're right.) I included persuasion tactics in this book in my telegram. The result? It worked! They said that they'll just let the nation cease to exist. Thank you, Mr. Berg!
